International Women’s Day: “Celebrating Women Overcoming Barriers of Discrimination”

The panel was composed of women from various career backgrounds ranging from politics, nonprofit, corporate and arts.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The first observance was in 1908 when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting rights, better pay, and shorter working hours. The 1910 International Woman’s Conference then suggested 8 March to become the “International Woman’s Day”. Despite the fact that women have come a long way since then, it is imperative to continue reflecting on progress made, to call for changes, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by remarkable women who inspire other women to play extraordinary roles.

Echoing the International Women’s Day 2019 theme, “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”, Yayasan Hasanah is proud to be hosting, “Celebrating Women Overcoming Barriers of Discrimination”, an insightful panel discussion from women who have created unforgettable impact in Malaysian society by celebrating who they are and understanding women’s empowerment from their perspectives.
