Researchers have identified ‘resilience’ to be an important factor in positive youth development. The cultivation of resilience means fostering adolescents’ capacity, flexibility, and coping strategies as they face developmental changes and life stresses in order to “bounce back” from difficult life experiences and achieve positive outcomes. Children from low-income families are more vulnerable as parents are unable to provide secure living conditions, conducive emotional growth and conflict-free environment as a result of their difficult financial conditions. Thus, cultivating resilience is an important way to promote the psychological and social development of adolescents. This session will bring together experts- researchers and practitioners who will share their experiences, lessons and stories on ways to foster this positive and resolute behaviour within young individuals and their constituents.
