Hasanah Special Grant 2022 awards a further RM8 million to 14 civil society organisations

Education and mental health initiatives, livelihood and income generation community projects, and environmental capacity-building programmes figure prominently among grant recipients

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 September 2022 – Yayasan Hasanah (“Hasanah”), a foundation under Khazanah Nasional Bhd (“Khazanah”) today announced the latest 14 recipients of its Hasanah Special Grant 2022 (HSG2022) with a total of RM8 million in grants allocated towards impact-driven projects supporting causes that uplift the underserved among Malaysian society.

Of the 14 recipients, six are focused on bringing about better educational outcomes amongst students, including mental health; four on community development through livelihood and income generation community programmes; and four on strengthening capability and capacity in environmental conservation including animal welfare. Additionally, five of the 14 organisations are repeat recipients previously awarded HSG2021 grants.

EDUCATION

  • Yayasan Chow Kit with a programme on building capacity for teachers from 5 Alternative Learning Centres (ALC) and a pilot programme on Learning Management System (LMS) for ALC students.
  • LeapEd Services Sdn Bhd with Phase 2 of their World’s Best School programme.
  • Persatuan Kaunselor Pendidikan Malaysia (PEKA) with a programme focusing on early aid in mental health.
  • Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YFBM) with their “Literasi Kelas Rimba” programme.
  • Pertubuhan Akademi Project ID with their “Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya” (PRS) programme focused on building capacity among students.
  • HSG2021 recipient PINTAR Foundation returned together with Nicol Ann David Organisation (NDO) with the PINTAR – NDO Little Legends Programme.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

  • Social Innovation Movement Association (SIM) with a project on developing intergenerational entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on closing the loop between the younger and older generation.
  • GE Nitrate Solutions with a project aimed at B40 farming communities in the district of Penampang, Sabah.
  • HSG2021 recipient Global Peace Foundation Malaysia returned with a project aimed at providing the Orang Asli community with access to clean water and sanitation.
  • HSG2021 recipient Pertubuhan Wanita Berdaya (Women of Will) returned with a project focused on developing entrepreneuring B40 women in Kedah.

ENVIRONMENT

  • HSG2021 recipient Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) returned with a project focused on improving welfare for the Sun Bear.
  • HSG2021 recipient Persatuan Penyelamat Haiwan Terbiar Bahtera Noah Ipoh Perak (Noah’s Ark) returned with a project aimed at managing the stray animal population in Ipoh and surrounding areas.
  • Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Kota Kinabalu (SPCAKK) with a project aimed at controlling the stray animal population to improve social order and safety within the local communities.
  • Roots & Shoots Environmental, Wildlife Conservation and Humanitarian Society (Malaysia) with their Roots & Shoots Malaysia Award (RASMA) 2022-2025.
